Microsoft will launch Project xCloud, its game streaming service, on 15th September 2020. The service will launch exclusively on Android devices with no iOS support.

The streaming service will be bundled as part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Project xCloud will cost $14.99 monthly and will come with more than 100 games available on Android tablets and phones.

“It’s our ambition to scale cloud gaming through Xbox Game Pass available on all devices, but we have nothing further to share at this time regarding iOS,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement.

Although the service will not have iOS support at its launch, Microsoft has been testing xCloud on iOS. The snag may be Apple’s App Store restrictive policies as the tech giant had previously revealed.

Apple’s 30 percent cut on in-app purchases and strict App Store policies were a topic of discussion at the recent antitrust hearings. Microsoft, however, have made no reference to any particular policy.

Microsoft appears to refer to Project xCloud as the ‘cloud gaming’ feature of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The service will also launch in 22 countries in September 2020.

The countries it will launch in include; Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Microsoft adds that the streaming service will first launch as a beta. Meanwhile, the versions that will launch in its One Store in Korea and Galaxy Store for Samsung users globally will both include “in-app purchase capabilities.” It is, however, unclear if the version on Google Playstore will have this feature.
