It appears that TikTok executives are unshaken despite the impending ban from operating its services in the US. Why is this? The company’s US executive, Vanessa Pappas says that it has ‘multiple’ survival strategies.
In recent weeks, TikTok has become the most talked about topic in tech circles. The viral video sharing app had run into trouble with various governments around the world. It first suffered a block in India due to unauthorised collection of user’s data and other offenses like underage use.
However, the US ban that looms above TikTok is even more serious because of its implications. Despite its repeated denial of the accusations leveled against it by the Trump administration; it is on the verge of shutting down its business in the US.

That is, unless a US-based company buys its operations in the country. This has appeared to be its only way to survive the ban, until Friday 21st August 2020, when Pappas told Bloomberg:
“We believe have multiple paths forward to ensure that we continue to provide this amazing app experience to the millions of Americans who come to rely on it every day. We’ve made it clear that we strongly disagree with the conclusions of CFIUS and we’re certainly disappointed in the outcome that we saw there.”
Vanessa Pappas is the head of TikTok operations in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. While she did not give details about what the other multiple paths are; she says that employees should be rest-assured and trust the company’s steadfastness.
The worry among TikTok employees is growing. Foreign workers bother if they would lose their work visas and their right to live in the US if the company is sold or banned. Also, they worry if in the event of being bought, if the new owners would retain them all or not.
For now, Microsoft Corp., Twitter and Oracle Corp. are at the forefront of chasing the TikTok deal.
