Mozilla has introduced a new free file-sharing application for Android users. The Firefox Send app was first available on the web a few weeks ago. The Android app is now available in the app store.

Firefox Send will let users share files of up to 1 gigabyte via a web link to other users in a secure end-to-end encrypted form. Users can also share files for up to 2.5 GB if they make a free account.

The associated file and link will expire after a time frame specified by the user. This can range from five minutes to seven days. Users can also choose the download link to expire between 1 and 1000 downloads. They can further select the auto-delete option that will ensure the removal of all files upon download.

The sender can also set passwords for the files to make sure only the desired receiver can download the files. This is to ensure further privacy.

Firefox Send lets you upload a group of files or one at a time. These files will automatically get converted into a single Zip file.

You can download the app, which is only still available at the beta form, via the Google Play store. Firefox Send will be available on the iOS app soon.

Security and privacy seem to be the focus of a lot of the applications invented by tech giants this year. Firefox is not far from it. Upon the official launch of Firefox Send, Mozilla’s Nick Nguyen said,

“With Send, you can feel safe that your personal information does not live somewhere in the cloud indefinitely.”
