Recall that in April, the “Soapy” crooner was indicted alongside Funke Akindele Bello and her Husband Abdulrasaq “JJC Skillz” Bello for breaking social distancing rule by hosting a birthday party.

The musician was arraigned before a Lagos State judge for breaking the cessation of movement order made by the federal government. The regulation is lodged under the Section 58 Public Health Law, Ch. P16, Laws of Lagos State 2015 on infection and emergency control.

Naira Marley and his manager pleaded guilty to the one-count charge and were both fined N100,000 each by the magistrate.

For context, Naira Marley alongside his manager flew from Lagos to Abuja on June 13. He did so to perform at a show in Abuja during the interstate travel ban.

The concert was put together by Play Network Africa, Traffic Bar, and El’Carnival, and was sponsored by Glenfiddich. It was also hosted by ex BBNaija housemate, Kimoprah. Naira flew through the Muritala Mohammed Airport and returned on the same day.

However, the federal government said it approved the singer’s flight because it was under the impression the aircraft was only carrying a Judge named, Adefope Okojie, from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos “for essential purposes and not the musician.”

Jabi Mall, where the concert took place was shut down in the wake of the event. In a letter, the aviation company’s chief executive officer, Sam Iwu also apologized for flying Naira Marley.

According to him, it was a case of mistaken identity as he thought his company was transporting “Fashola Babatunde,” minister for housing and works, and not a concert-bound Musician.
