A magistrate court sitting in Lagos has dismissed the car theft case against popular Nigerian musician Naira Marley and others.

In December, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Chief Magistrate ordered the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Sgt. Sunday Idoko, to present Naira Marley in court on the next date of adjournment following his alleged involvement in the car theft.

Assistant superintendent of police (ASP), Edet Okoi, the prosecutor also told the court that the three defendants committed the offences on 16th December 2019 at Eko Hotel Roundabout on Victoria Island, Lagos.

He said that the trio, who were in a motorcade with Naira Marley, stole a Toyota Camry vehicle with registration number FEE-120-AA valued at ₦1.8 million and an iPhone XS worth ₦330,000 belonging to one Mr Adelekan Ademola.

He added that the three defendants, along with others still at large, assaulted the complainant by beating him up.

Okoi stated that the second defendant, Babatunde Fashola, and others at large, obstructed the police while performing their lawful duty and prevented them from arresting Naira Marley.

According to Channels, the Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias struck out the four counts and dismissed the case. This came after they received a settlement agreement between the complainant, Mr Adelekan Ademola, and the four defendants. Elias did this while delivering his ruling on Tuesday, 14th January 2020.

Naira Marley and his two brothers, Idris Fashola and Babatunde Fashola, along with their cousin Kunle Obere, were the defendants in the case.

This comes as a relief for Naira Marley whose case of cybercrime is still in court. However, it has been adjourned to 27th and 28th of February 2020.
