Netflix Announced Plan To launch 40 New Anime Titles This Year!

Netflix announced at Tokyo’s AnimeJapan 2021 Expo Saturday that it will launch 40 new anime titles in 2021, according to Bloomberg. This is a follow-up on the success of its Blood of Zeus series in 2020.

 

This year, the video streaming service has an adaptation of the Japanese manga Record of Ragnarok in store. The adaptation is to premiere in June 2021. Yasuke, an anime about an African samurai in feudal-era Japan which will premiere on 29th April 2021; and Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, based on the video game franchise is also coming to its screens.

Netflix had previously announced that its anime series, The Way of the Househusband, based on a Japanese manga series, will debut on 8th April 2021. The number of anime titles coming to Netflix this year is reportedly nearly double the total number of anime series and movies it released in 2020 according to Variety.

 

“We want to be able to pride ourselves as being the top entertainment destination with good quality content. The growth of our business is directly connected to the growth of our anime,” Netflix’s chief anime producer, Taiki Sakurai, said to Bloomberg.

 

Netflix is looking to gain more share in an increasing $23 billion anime market. The service says the number of households that streamed its anime offerings last year increased by half from 2019. And, with the market expected to grow to more than $36 billion by 2025, according to Bloomberg, Netflix will be looking at growing its share further.
