Netflix to release a new Dragon Age anime

The Dragon Age franchise by Bioware is getting a new Netflix anime series titled Dragon Age: Absolution; see more details.

First released in 2009 as a game titled Dragon Age: Origins, the franchise has since evolved into a media hybrid and garnered a cult following. The most recent happening in the fantasy world is an upcoming Netflix fantasy that is aimed at resurrecting the anime arm of the game.

Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker (2012) was the franchise’s last anime film or TV adaptation. It was generally regarded as below-par — given the tons of materials available to make the movie great. There have also been two web series, one that began airing in 2010 and another that aired in 2011.

For now, the details on Absolution are sparse. Still, The Verge reported that Red Dog Culture House would produce the series, the South Korean animation studio behind Heaven Official’s Blessing TV series. Mairghread Scott, who ran the Guardians of the Galaxy and some Transformers shows, will helm the series.

Bioware, the makers of the original Dragon Age world, are also involved in making the series. The cast, characters, and plot are still under wraps to build the suspense.

However, one juicy detail is that the series will be set in the mythical Tevinter Imperium — an elusive empire of mages that has been talked about all through the game but has never been portrayed.

Dragon Age: Absolution has an airing date of December 2022.
