Netflix has taken down Nollywood film “Slay” from its streaming following allegations of copyright infringement from Ghanaian singer, Wendy Shay.
The film which was already topping Netlfix charts in a few countries was yanked off the platform after Wendy Shay called out the producers for using her song in the film without her knowledge.
“So, I watched this movie last night on Netflix and my song, ‘All for you’ was featured without my consent or that of my management,” Wendy Shay tweeted. “Producers of the movie ‘Slay’, it is a crime to use someone’s intellectual property without her consent. Kindly do the needful or I will see y’all in court.”

Neither Netflix nor the film’s producers have commented on the issue but the film is no longer on the platform.
“Slay’” is produced by Elvis Chucks and directed by Adze Ugah. It features a star-studded cast of African movie stars include Ramsey Nouah, South Africa’s Amanda Dupont, Leroy Gopal, and Kabomo Vilakazi, and Idris Sultan, Tanzanian actor; Joe Kazadi, Congolese actor; amongst others.
This will not be the first time controversy would rock a Nigerian film on Netflix. Late last year, journalist Tobore Ovuorie accused Mo Abudu and EbonyLife Studios of adapting her life and an investigative report into the film “Oloture” without her consent. They also tagged the film “a work of fiction” which she vehemently opposed. The journalist also promised to meet Mo Abudu in court.
