Apple has revealed on its website that the new Mac Pro will be released in September 2019. The company announced the new devices at the World Web Developers Conference (WWDC) last week.
More information on the prices of the Mac Pro devices is yet to be revealed. According to Apple, the machine will start at $5,999. The fully equipped version is also estimated at $35,000.
The new devices come with resolved issues initially detected with the thermal system of the Mac Pro released in 2013. The 2019 Mac Pro will retain the classic Apple design. However, the interior will have flexibility and modularity that address the biggest issues in the previous design.
The new Mac Pro will have up to 28 Intel Xeon core processors. It will also have up to 300 watts of power and heavy-duty cooling. This is so that it can run unconstrained at full power all the time. The system memory will be expandable to 1.5 terabytes.
It will also have six memory channels across 12 DIMM slots. The new Mac Pro has eight PCI express slots. Four of them are double-wide and able to accommodate larger expansion cards.
There are two USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports and two USB-A ports. These are at the rear of the system. There are two more USB-C /TB3 ports at the top of it.
Apple is also launching a custom expansion module called the MPX Module with the Mac Pro. This takes advantage of the dedicated Thunderbolt 3 backbone which helps with high-speed connectivity.
The MPX Module is a huge quad-wide PCIe card that can fit two graphics cards. It has its own dedicated heat sink and a custom Thunderbolt connector that hooks it to the backbone of the system.
Apple says users have the ability to configure the system with either of these; AMD’s Radeon Pro Vega 2 or Radeon Pro Vega 2 Duo. This gives you four GPUs and 128GB of HBM2 graphics memory.
An additional Afterburner will also be up for sale. It is a dedicated video editing card used to process up to 6 billion pixels per second.
Apple promises a quiet machine with a power supply that maxes out at 1.4 Kilowatts.
