Slack also says the new app will use 50% less RAM than it did before. These new updates will be a major relief for Slack customers with multiple workspaces. The new desktop client has now been rebuilt to accommodate the multi-workspace within the app.

This means Slack will no longer create a standalone copy for each workspace. It now uses a more modern codebase so that it will take up less RAM space. Slack rebuilding the app’s user interface using React would also make it ten times faster to join calls with colleagues within the app.

A faster workspace

The Slack desktop app will perform better even in the midst of bad internet connectivity. In the past, as a slight drop in internet connectivity will prevent users from viewing channels and conversations. However, this does not mean Slack’s desktop version has an offline mode. But it means that sessions will be cached better so that you can still view conversation when the connection slows down.

Slack is simply rebuilding on an underlying technology to improve the workspace. The director of Product Management at Slack, Jaime DeLanghe, told TechCrunch,

“We want people to be able to run Slack alongside anything else they’re using to get their job done and have that be easy, uncumbersome, delightful even. So we took a look at the environment we’re in. I think the other thing to note is that the ecosystem for client-side development has just changed a lot in the past five years.”

“There have been some major updates to JavaScript and new technologies like React and Redux to make it easier to build dynamic web applications. We also wanted to update our stack to fit in with the modern paradigm,” he added.

The update will be available to users on the desktop and web app.
