New Start: Facebook Rebrands Its Name To “Meta” After Series Of Crises

Facebook has rebranded its name from Facebook to”Meta”, the company had gone through a lot of crises in the past months. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the name change during its Connect event. The company has been accused of antitrust issues, facebook-Instagram teenage toxic space and a recent whistleblowing scandal.

Facebook now has a new website named Meta.com, which redirects to a Facebook page for now. The new company Meta is about Facebook’s move from just a social media company to building the metaverse.

The Metaverse is a virtual reality space that aims to bridge the gap between distance communication. Facebook now trades under a new sticker MVRS, which becomes effective December 1.

Facebook says it’s banning all s****l harassment content targeted at celebrities. The company made the announcement on Wednesday 13, October 2021. It will be removing “severe sexualizing content” as it updates its bullying and harassment policies.

So what exactly does this affect? All Pages, Groups, Profiles and events that aim to sexualise celebrities, politicians and even content creators.

Also in the newest bullying and harassment policy is the ban of any sexualized drawings and photoshops, and dehumanizing content “in the process of bodily functions.”

Antigone Davis, Global head of safety at Facebook gave the details of the instances. Also, Facebook gave reasons for the new bullying and harassment policy.

“We made these changes because attacks like these can weaponize a public figure’s appearance, which is unnecessary and often not related to the work these public figures represent.”

Zuckerberg’s company has not fully transitioned to Meta, the company will “effectively transition from people seeing us as primarily being a social media company to being a metaverse company.” “But over time, I hope we are seen as a metaverse company.” He added.
