There’s a new WhatsApp ‘crash code’ being circulated that can cause the app to fail and need to be re-installed. When opened, the messages will send the application into an infinite loop and force the user to delete and reinstall the app.
The crash code affects both the iOS and Android versions of Whatsapp, resulting in users losing entire chat histories in some cases. The crash code contains a random string of characters that will cause rendering problems and force the app to crash.

WABetaInfo first discovered the crash code, and reports it as thus;
“A contact might send a message that contains many weird characters. If you read them entirely, they have no sense, but WhatsApp might interpret the message in the wrong way. Sometimes WhatsApp is also unable to render the message totally because its structure is so weird: the combination of these characters creates a situation where WhatsApp isn’t able to process the message, determining an infinite crash. Infinite crash means that, when you open WhatsApp, it is frozen and it crashes. If you try to open the app again, it still crashes.”
One possible remedy after receiving the crash code may be to log in to your WhatsApp via the desktop version of the app. Log in and delete the message and then block the number that sent it. To do this, you have to have previously signed in to the desktop version as you would need a QR code to log in
The crash code has caught the attention of WhatsApp who says they are working on the issue. “WhatsApp has released and already begun rolling out a patch that addresses this in its latest iOS software update,” a spokesperson from Facebook said.
