Nigerian celebrities have mourned the passing of veteran American broadcaster Larry King, who died on January 23rd at age 87.Veteran Nollywood Actress, Joke Silver posted the late broadcaster’s picture writing “Rest well Larry King. You were the king of interviews. Always polite, always listening”
Comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka also wrote, “Legends don’t die, they transit to glory. Rest in peace Larry King” while Atunyota Akpobome better known as Alibaba said “Rest on” attaching a photo of King’s.
King was an American television host, radio host, and paid spokesman. His work was recognized with awards including two Peabodys, an Emmy award, and 10 Cable ACE Awards.
His death was announced by his son with the statement;
“With profound sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at age 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,” the statement said.
“For 63 years and across the platforms of radio, television and digital media, Larry’s many thousands of interviews, awards, and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and lasting talent as a broadcaster.”

Larry King started off his career as a local Florida journalist and radio interviewer in the 1950s and 1960s. He shot to limelight in 1978 as host of The Larry King Show, an all-night nationwide call-in radio program heard on the Mutual Broadcasting System from 1985 to 2010.
He battled several health challenges in his lifetime. These include a heart attack, a stroke, prostate and lung cancer, and diabetes. He spent his 87th birthday, in November 2020, hospitalized with a blood-flow issue. He also tested positive for coronavirus in the later part of 2020. However, his cause of death was not revealed by the family
“The world knew Larry King as a great broadcaster and interviewer, but to us he was ‘Dad.’ He was the man who lovingly obsessed over our daily schedules and our well-being, and who took such immense pride in our accomplishments — large, small, or imagined,” their statement continued.
“Through it all, we knew without a doubt in the world that he loved us more than life itself. He was an amazing father, and he was fiercely loyal to those lucky enough to call him a friend. We will miss him every single day of our lives.”
