Nigeria 2019 top trends is a compilation of most searched words or phrases in the past 11 months on Google.
The internet space gives a lot of information about what people talked about most. For example, it lets you know what is most significant in a particular period of time.
The search engine giants list the top five phrases and words under 11 categories. Beneath stories, the ASUU Strike came first. Likely, with some of the strike actions undergone by the union, students and their parents searched to know more about when it would end or when they would embark on another one. Followed by this are AFCON 2019, Naira Marley controversies, the Women Worl Cup 2019 and Xenophobia.
Most searched people on Google in 2019 are Naira Marley, Atiku Abubakar, Neymar, MC Olumo, and Rema. Controversies and stories around these people pushed them to the top of the searches. Internet users wanted to know what was happening with these individuals.
For trending questions, there were two categories people were searching for: What is and How to. People wanted to know What is Xenophobia and How to create an email account the most. Then they also wanted to know how to start a blog and what is Ruga.

On music artiste searches, Zlatan and Burnaboy ranked above Naira Marley. Teni and Kizz Daniel also made it into the top five searches. Meanwhile, Regina Daniels was the most searched for actor or actress in Nigeria in 2019. Genevieve Nnaji, Tonto Dike, Hadiza Gabon, and Ini Edo were also most searched for movie personalities.
Lyrics that people wanted to learn most of all was the Brown Skin Girl track from the Lion King album. Uyo Meyo, Blow My Mind, Soapy and Davido’s Risky were mostly searched for on Google. iPhone 11, XS, and 8 topped the chart of mobile phone searches in Nigeria along with Samsung Note and S10.
Among TV shows and movies, Big Brother Naija came out number one followed by Mehek. Captain Marvel was the third most searched movie along with the series, When They See Us, and Aquaman was number five.
Lovers of sport searched for Neymar most. A close second was the Emiliano Sala tragedy and then David Luiz. Bruno Fernandes and Higuain also made it into the top five. It is notable that big named like Ronaldo and Messi were left out.
Popular songs that trended were Joro, Dangote, Brown Skin Girl, Woske, and Pawon. If you used Google regularly in 2019, you likely contributed to these trends.
