Nintendo has announced that it is ending support for the Netflix app on the Wii U and 3DS. The company will shut down the app by 30th June 2021 for existing users. Also, it is no longer available for users who have never downloaded the app because Nintendo removed it from the eShop. Users that have downloaded the app can still redownload it.

“Starting Dec 31st, 2020, the Netflix app will no longer be available for new users to download from Nintendo eShop on the Wii U console or Nintendo 3DS family of systems. During that time, it will be possible for existing users to re-download these applications. Service for existing users will continue until June 30th, 2021. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed Netflix on these platforms over the years,” Nintendo said on the listings for the Wii U and 3DS Netflix app.

Nintendo had stopped making the 3DS in September 2020 and stopped the Wii U in favor of the Nintendo Switch. Therefore, it does not come as a surprise that is shutting down the Netflix app on its older platforms.

However, Netflix still isn’t on the Nintendo Switch. This is despite former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé saying that the company was talking with companies like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon about bringing their services to the console after the Switch originally launched in March 2017.
