Fans of Spider-Man are on to a rude shock. The highly anticipated last Marvel film of the year may not happen. According to reports, Marvel and Sony are going their separate ways because of Peter Parker.

Apparently, Disney had asked for a stake as a co-financier. Sony, on the other hand, wanted to keep the previous arrangement. The former deal allowed Spider-Man to be an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Disney is now walking away from this old deal. Now, Marvel will no longer work as the executive producer for any more Spider-Man films. This is despite Sony having at least two more planned films with Spider-Man actor, Tim Holland and Jon Watts, the director.

The problem started when Disney wanted an equal co-financing arrangement of 50/50. Disney and Marvel had gone as far as discussing the possibility of extending to other Sony-owned Spider-Man characters.

However, this conversation did not end very well. Sony turned the offer down without showing any traces of compromise. The company was not ready to share its biggest franchise. Sony wanted the old arrangement where Marvel got about 5% of first-dollar gross. Disney vehemently refused this offer.

What Is The Future Of Marvel’s Spider-Man?

One thing is certain in all of this: Tom Holland is still going to be Peter Parker for a long time. However, the future of MCU is very uncertain at this time as Holland will not be in any new Marvel films. This split is particularly unfortunate as Spider-Man has been an integral part of the MCU since he was introduced in Captain America: Civil War. He also played a major role in Avengers: Infinity War. We can also not forget the emotional moments in Avengers: Endgame.

The most disappointing bit is the two end credit scenes from Spider-Man: Far From Home that will likely open up the Marvel multiverse. All of these hopes have been dashed with this news. Meanwhile, Sony says they are disappointed that they will not be working with Disney on future Spider-Man films.
