EbonyLife boss Mo Abudu has made a video on Instagram to shed more light on the copyright infringement accusations made by journalist Tobore Ovuorie.
Tobore Ovuorie alleged that EbonyLife adapted her life story into the film “Òlòtūré” which is currently on Netflix. Ovuorie, is a freelance investigative journalist who went undercover to bust a s*x trafficking syndicate in 2013.
The report, published on Premium Times bears an eerie semblance to the plot of Òlòtūré. However, the film was listed as a work of fiction.
In the new video, Mo Abudu says Tobore demanded the sum of $5 million as compensation. According to her, she will not be intimidated because of the perceived success of “Òlòtūré”
She says EbonyLife secured the rights to make a film from the report from Premium Times Limited. Abudu proceeded to point out several instances in the film to prove it was not an adaptation of Ovuorie’s life.
“Premium Times Services Limited, publishers of Premium Times has disclosed that Journalist Tobore Ovuorie cannot lay claim to the copyright of the investigative report which belongs to them… We sought and obtained rights from Premium Times, the owners of the story and as such, fulfilled our legal obligations and do not take kindly to suggestions stating otherwise”.

Mo Abudu also said Tobore Ovuorie has been harassing Kenneth Gyang, the director. She added he had never seen the script till he was enlisted to direct Òlòtūré. The media boss says that the film was made with the input of over a hundred persons including Nigerian agencies against prostitution.
