Prince Harry and billionaire celebrity Oprah Winfrey are teaming up to create a documentary series focused on mental health. The multi-part series will be made exclusively for Apple’s new streaming service, Apple TV Plus.
The Duke of Sussex posted the project on his official Instagram handle. He explained that the project will focus on mental wellness and mental illness. The aim, according to the prince, is to inspire viewers to have honest conversations about challenges faced by everyone. It is also expected to equip people with tools to not just survive but thrive too.
The Instagram post explains that the English Prince and Oprah are co-creators, executive producers and partners of the series. The series, which they have been developing for months, will build on Prince Harry’s continual efforts to raise awareness on the importance of having conversations about mental health.
The duke has shared his own personal experiences over the years. He has also worked with various organisations to co-launch a campaign called Heads Together in 2017. The campaign aims to raise funds for mental health services. It also intends to end the stigma associated with speaking on mental health publicly.
On the Instagram post, Prince Harry writes,
“I truly believe that good mental health — mental fitness — is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities and a purpose-driven self. It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times.”
“Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive — sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better. I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series.”
The post, which got a lot of attention the social networking app, got a comment from Oprah where she shows her excitement about the project. She writes,
“Delighted to be partnering with you. Hope we shed a lot of light. And change some lives!”
The series will launch on Apple’s streaming service in 2020.
