Google announces that its Play store will no longer sell movies and TV shows in May 2022; you can buy them from the Google TV app.
To give its other apps more visibility, Google seems to be reducing what you can do on its Play store. Recall that it had shut down Google Play Music to make YouTube Music more relevant — a move that worked. So, it looks like this is what the search engine company plans to do in this instance.
However, the changes are not significant to cause inconvenience. Apart from the familiarity of using Play to buy movies and TV shows, you will not miss it.

“On Google TV, you will find the same experience you are used to on Google Play Movies & TV with the latest new releases, rentals, deals, and great recommendations for you,” the company reassures. Also, its sync feature means that you can access your Play purchases via the Google TV app.
Likely, Google Books will put an end to book purchases on Google Play until it only provides apps and games. You can get the Google TV app here and start exploring its features. The app already has over 5 billion downloads from Play and had a new update on 8 March 2022. Google boasts that it contains 700,000+ movies and TV episodes culled from streaming apps.
