Prince Harry has responded to claims that he and his wife Meghan Markle did not seek the Queen’s approval before naming their new baby girl “Lilibet”, her Majesty’s nickname.According to reports, the Duke of Sussex “never asked” the Queen before naming his child after her.

“Palace source tells BBC that the Queen was not asked by Meghan and Harry over the use of her childhood nickname; reports suggested Harry had sought permission from Queen to call newborn ‘Lilibet’; but Palace source says the Queen was ‘never asked’,” Jonny Dymond told Radio 4 “Today” program.

However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have slammed down those claims, saying the Queen was well aware that their new baby would be named after her.

Their official spokesman said Prince Harry had been on the phone with The Queen as soon as little Lillibet was born. “The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement, in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called.

“During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”

The baby was born on Friday, June 4th, 2021.

“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” the couple had said in their announcement statement.
