Reddit will be releasing a fix for a piece of code that copies the clipboard contents of its users’ in iOS14. TikTok and LinkedIn recently had to make the same fix after Apple introduced a new iOS14 feature that notifies users when an app has read content from another app or device.

Users of the beta version of iOS 14 reported receiving the alerts with each keystroke in Reddit’s iOS app. A twitter user posted a video recording of the issue.

Reddit, however, denies storing user information and promised to fix the issue soon. Reddit said, “We do not store or send the pasteboard contents”.

“We tracked this down to a code path in the post composer that checks for URLs in the pasteboard and then suggests a post title based on the text contents of the URL. We removed this code and are releasing the fix on July 14th,” a Reddit spokesperson said in a statement.

LinkedIn had earlier been caught indulging in the practice it calls a “behaviour bug”, promising to fix the issue. Its engineering VP Erran Bergerwote on Twitter explained the behaviour by saying the app was performing an “equality check” between what a user is typing and what’s in their clipboard.

“We don’t store or transmit the clipboard contents,” Berger tweeted.

TikTok explained the issue as an anti-spam feature and that it was being discontinued. It is likely that more apps will be found with the same issue, however, they will try to fix the issue before the iOS 14 is launched publicly.
