On Saturday 28th August 2021, lovers of Kemi Adetiba’s “King of Boys” (KOB) gathered at the Tech Experience Centre for the watch party of its sequel.
Organised by Plat4om, attendees arrived on time to watch the seven-part series written and directed by Kemi Adetiba.
In this much-anticipated sequel, Alhaja Eniola Salami (Sola Sobowale) returns to Nigeria after three years of exile. This time around, she wants to be the Governor of Lagos State and will do anything to unseat the incumbent.
Spotlight especially beams on Eniola’s personal aide and head of security Ade Tiger (Titi Kuti) who must leave no stone unturned in not only helping his boss secure the governorship seat, but also prove his loyalty.
“The Return of King Of Boys” is a heavily star-studded sequel with actors such as Deyemi Okanlawon, Efa Iwara, and Nse-Ikpe Etim make their debut on the film’s second instalment. Also featured are Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, Charles Oputa aka Charly Boy, Bimbo Manuel, etc

The plot and twists in this film are simply top-notch. Kemi Adetiba brought suspense and if you think you will be bored at any point in the film, you will be disappointed. The use of Yoruba proverbs and scripting is one thing that will blow your mind in this sequel.
However, there were some scenes in the film that dragged for minutes. For example, when Alhaja Eniola visited the Iyaloja to solicit her endorsement for the gubernatorial seat. Also, the power tussle at the last scene of the series was just too long with a lot of shouting and eulogies.
Also, there were missing links in the resolution of the film. First, when did the owner of the conscience newspaper Bimbo Manuel decide to work for Eniola Salami, selling out his staff Dapo Banjo? Most importantly why is Makanaki crowned as Oba by the same woman who authorised his death years ago? Same Makanaki that took an oath to kill all his enemies with Eniola Salami being top on his list.
Overall, Kemi Adetiba did a good job with this sequel. This film may just clear the majority of the awards in the next Africa Magic Awards (AMVCA). Head on to Netflix to watch it if you haven’t.
