Faraday Okoro’s “Nigerian Prince” spotlights the world of internet fraud aka Yahoo Yahoo. Yahoo Yahoo is an online scam. The online scammers impersonate business owners to swindle their clients. Phishing is also common with this fraudulent trade. It is a technique used to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details.

Antonio J. Bell plays Eze, the U.S.-born son of two immigrants from Nigeria. A teen with no interest in his heritage visits Nigeria on his mother’s instruction by himself, staying with his aunt Grace (Tina Mba). Had he known what his Aunt’s home is like, Eze probably would have had to be put on the airplane by force.

Nigerian Prince was made with the prize money of the Untold Stories Competition won by Faraday Okoro. He also co-wrote the film with Andrew Long. Faraday seems to know his way around both the place his story is set and the people who inhabit it. In the end, he offers a film that tells the Nigerian story.

For example, Bimbo Manuel plays the role of the corrupt police chief collecting money to cover up Pius’s dirty work. He would detain unlawfully, get his boys to beat internet fraudsters mercilessly and eventually kill them if he doesn’t get the lion’s share of their loot.

During the October 2020 #EndSARS protest, Nigerians became aware of Akwuzu SARS in Anambra State. This police station for more than 10 years was the centre of incredulous tales of torture and extrajudicial killings.

Some locals have described it as the most brutal in Nigeria. If you’re taken there, the chances of making it out are slim.

As you watch this film, you probably will think of Nigerian convicted fraudster Obiwanne Okeke. He is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence in the United States for internet fraud that caused $11M losses to his victims.

Presently showing on Netflix, Nigerian Prince reveals that Yahoo Yahoo is a menace that needs to end.
