iPhone 14 latest bug is the device automatically dialing 911 when users are on a rollercoaster.
Another day, another news on iPhone 14. This time, the device’s Crash Detection feature failed to pass the rollercoaster test.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the device has sent the authorities on a fool’s errand on more than one occasion. At the Kings Island amusement park, there have been at least six calls to the 911 dispatch center nearby.
The problem is that the feature relies on sensors that are typical of car crashes but possible to generate by rollercoaster rides. Such movements like twists, turns, and hard braking could be easily mistaken for a real-life emergency situation by the device, which does not know any better.

Usually, the call can be canceled within 20 seconds of the iPhone 14 showing the alert. However, most people don’t have their phones in their hands during thrilling rollercoaster rides. The feature is not restricted to iPhone 14 as Apple also rolled it out for the 2022 Apple Watch range.
Authorities will be told that the user had been in a crash and send the device location as well. Also, they will hear an audio recording in the background.
Despite its many flaws, as reviewers have shown, the Crash Detection feature correctly alerted responders of a fatal crash in Nebraska, which claimed six lives.
For now, it is not clear if Apple will work on an additional feature that allows users set an ‘on a rollercoaster ride’ mode on their devices. Alternatively, if this fix never comes, you can leave your gadget in a safe place before getting on the rides or turn on airplane mode.
