Samsung recently revealed that it is possible for your smart TV to get a virus. The South Korean company mentioned this in a tweet that they later deleted.

The tweet had a link to a video that showed Samsung TV owners how to check their TV for viruses. However, the instruction video is still available on Samsung’s website. It shows how easy it is to perform the virus scan.

Usually, televisions are built to scan for viruses automatically. But a lot of users are oblivious to the fact that their TVs can be vulnerable to malware attacks.

Samsung’s tweet was a rude awakening to this reality. The fact that users can connect smart TVs to WiFi makes them just as susceptible to viruses as any PC.

The question now is if Samsung’s QLED smart TVs are virus ridden. Meanwhile, Samsung says the tweet intended to educate customers about their Smart TVs.

That said, you may want to check whether your Samsung Smart TV has been exposed to a virus.

Follow these simple steps to do so:

  • Go to Samsung’s TV’s setting menu on the remote control.
  • Navigate to General.
  • Tap on System Manager.
  • In the menu, go to the Smart Security option.
  • Select and click Scan.
  • The TV will now scan for viruses and will let you know if your computer has been exposed. Hopefully, it hasn’t. In case it has, it might be worth whipping out your warranty or contacting your retail store for help.
