Samsung To Soon Start Providing Exynos Chipsets To Oppo, Vivo And Xiaomi

In a move that may see Samsung become one of the biggest mobile chipsets supplier, reports claim that it will soon start supplying its Exynos processors to Oppo and Xiaomi.

Samsung has been the major chipset supplier for Vivo for some time now. However, adding Oppo and Xiaomi to its list of customers will see its shipments rise. Xiaomi had finished Q3 2020 as the third-best selling smartphone maker in the world. If its starts shipping devices with Exynos chipsets, Samsung’s numbers will surely rise.

According to sources close to the company, Oppo and Xiaomi will start to buy chipsets tech from Samsung in 2021. There is further information that budget phones from these companies in the first half of 2021 will contain Exnos processors.

Samsung LSI, the chipset arm of the tech multinational firm, had been seeking new customers because supplying to only Samsung’s smartphone unit was not yielding enough profit. Likely, adding Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi will turn this around.

In addition, Oppo and Xiaomi are also seeking new suppliers because Huawei’s chipset business is falling. However, the companies concerned in this news have not confirmed these reports.

This development will place Samsung in direct part with Qualcomm, which is the number one Android chipset provider. Since the Exynos chipsets are to be shipped first in budget smartphones, it will create a healthy competition. It will also favour customers looking to spend less on buying good smartphones.
