Bigscreen, a virtual social platform, has designed Beyond, which it is calling the smallest VR headset in the world. It is the San Francisco-based company’s attempt to rival industry leaders who have been making bulky gadgets.
According to an Engagdet report, the headset weighs 6oz (or 170g) with its strap, which is lighter than the 187g HTC Vive Flow and the PlayStation VR2, that measures 560g.
The company still managed to fit two 5K 90Hz OLED displays into it and it offers six-degrees-of-freedom tracking and three-element pancake optics that remove the screen door effect.

To make the device as small as possible, Bigscreen directs its users to scan their face with an iPhone app to get a custom-fitted Beyond headset. This means that the headset will not bear knobs for adjusting to size.
For tracking purposes, the Beyond VR headset uses external SteamVR Base Stations instead of built-in cameras. It works well with controllers like Vive and Valve’s Index that are compatible with StreamVR platform.
In addition, because the headset doesn’t come with its own kit, it works with computers that have a minimum of quad-core processor and GeForce RTX 2070- or Radeon RX 5700 XT-class graphics.
Beyond VR headset costs $999 on pre-order and will start entering the market in Q3 2023 in the US while it will ship in Canada and Europe in Q4 2023. It will ship in other countries much later.
