A UK based laboratory known as Mologic entered a partnership with Senegalese scientists to manufacture coronavirus test kits. The laboratory claims that the test kit will produce results in 10 minutes.

Mologic says the collaborative effort will be jointly manufactured in Senegal while its designs will originate from Mologic’s UK labs.

“Rapid detection of the virus is important to stop its spread — we are pleased that the UK government has acknowledged this, supporting Mologic and the work of our partners to prevent further outbreaks internationally,” said Mologic Medical Director Joe Fitchett.

At the moment, samples from coronavirus tests are proving that results can be ready within 24 hours if the labs have the capacity to complete them.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson paid a visit to the lab, announcing a $58 million funding. The fund will help experts in their search for a vaccine and the development of testing kits for the disease.

Mologic says it got almost $1.3 million from the fund. It also added that the money will facilitate the production of handheld kits. These kits will be able to function quickly and effectively. The would also work without electricity and the need for lab analysis.

The British government also says that the new test kits will be extremely beneficial in low-income countries. Many of which are battling the accuracy of coronavirus testing.

“Rapid testing is going to be key to managing this outbreak, but ultimately vaccines are going to provide the long-term protection we need,” according to Patrick Vallance, UK Government chief scientific officer.

Mologic is in partnership with the Institut Pasteur de Dakar and five research institutes for the coronavirus test kits.

Institut Pasteur de Dakar proud of the partnership

Dr Amadou Sall, Director of Institut Pasteur de Dakar in Senegal commenting on the partnership said:

“The COVID-19 epidemic highlights an unprecedented level of seeding of cases to vulnerable locations. We are proud of this partnership working with UK aid to support all countries to have responsive and resilient diagnostics to control COVID-19.”

The other institutes involved are Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine; St George’s, University of London in Europe; the Wuhan Institute of Virology; the University of Malaya in Asia; and Fiocruz in Latin America.
