Secure messaging application Signal now allows its users to change their numbers without clearing the thread of their conversations. This is a feature that the more popular WhatsApp and iMessage apps have not caught up with yet.
The company recently announced that they will be rolling out this feature now, meaning users can switch between two numbers. Switching between new numbers without losing any of their existing chats, groups and messages is a sigh of relief.
Although Signal says in order to add a new number, you still need to get Signal messages sent to the old line. After that is done, simply head to the new “Change Phone Number” option in the app account settings. Thereafter, you input both the old and new numbers and then Signal prompts you on its normal process of setting an account with a number.

Remember nothing is lost during the change, Signal promises the experience to be smooth and seamless. If you intend to change your phone instead, you can simply use Signal’s local data transfer feature to move your data on iOS.
