The Snapchat Map feature is a new update that lets users give others their exact location, and worried users warn parents to beware. Security is getting more important worldwide, with reports of crime getting wilder daily.
Of course, Snap did not intend this feature to become invasive, but it can be just that. And for kids, the danger could be even greater.
Snap Map lets others see where you are at a given time and even helps them estimate how long it will take to get to the location. As Daily Mail says, parents are worried about the feature, and rightly so.
Although, the platform allows users to deactivate this feature by turning off the precise location button in phone settings or by remaining on Ghost Mode. Yet, concerned guardians and users have complained about the feature for several reasons.

One is that there is always a chance for unsuspecting users to have it on without knowing. Also, it gives ‘creepy vibes’ if we are being truthful. As one concerned person argues, the feature is useless because if a Snapchat user wants to find out where another user lives, they should ask them. That way, the user understands what they are giving away and can make the proper choice.
The situation even gets more problematic with the app’s premium version; it lets users see where another user has been for the last 24 hours.
However, the company has argued that it considered security while designing the feature. For example, the Snap Map is off by default, and a user has to turn it on in the first place. Also, it claims to have zero-tolerance for bullying or harassment and encourages users to report any concerns.
You can check your Snap Map settings by going to the app’s setting and looking at what permissions you have selected under “See My Location,” the preferred one is “Only Me.” In addition, under “My Location” settings, you can opt to turn on “Ghost Mode” and essentially stop others from seeing your location.
