Spotify now allows advertisers to target ads at users listening to podcasts. The company recently announced that it can not infuse ads in podcasts based on the specifications.
Before now, advertisers usually target the users on Spotify’s free subscription based on the music they listen to. However, the company will now target the ads based on their playlists or music genre. This will help them to create a more useful ad target that will most likely attract advertisers.
Spotify will likely make more money from more specific ad target using podcast features. Spotify says it intends to continue building ads around podcasts. The company wants to develop better advertising solutions for podcasts.
It initially partnered with tech giant Samsung to checkout podcast-based ad targeting. Spotify is now confidently rolling out the feature in 10 countries.
It will involve Spotify markets in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, America, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Australia.
The ads will be the same as all the other ads on Spotify. It will be inserted between songs for people on Spotify’s free service. This will, however, not affect ads in the podcast; it is only how they are targeted.
Meanwhile, Samsung is a good example of the success of this method. They target ads not based on music but on age, gender, listening platform, genre, or playlists.
Samsung can target people who listen to tech and business shows based on their interests. They can determine that they are likely to be more interested in Samsung products.
This depicts that podcast listening habits shows more about a person’s interests that their music taste. It seems like Spotify might be a better ad strategy for Spotify.
