Nigeria has become the first African country to receive Starlink service and this comes at a similar price for its hardware that doesn’t compensates for the economic realities of citizens.

In the United States, a Starlink hardware costs $599 and in Nigeria, it costs about NGN275,000 when you use the official exchange rate of NGN460 to a dollar. Of course, many living in the country find it harder to acquire dollars through bank channels and resort to vendors whose exchange rates approach nearly NGN800.

Besides the expensive hardware, you still have to pay NGN19,260 every month to enjoy the service. However, if you can afford these expenses, you can place an order for the Starlink kit directly from the company website and get it delivered to you in Nigeria.

Another good news is that a single router can support up to 128 devices, which means that you and your neighbors or colleagues can pitch in to get the device set up. Although, the maximum number of devices you can ideally connect to a Starlink router and enjoy is about 10. Remember that the bandwidth will be shared among connected devices.

To set up the Starlink internet kit, you only need a clear view of the sky and it is to be installed on ground level. For other kinds of installations, you can also buy additional accessories from the company.

Then, you will need to download the app on your device to manage the kit for speed, settings, visibility, statistics and so on. According to Bello Gbadebo who pre-ordered the internet kit in October, it arrived after a week and some days. Gbadebo also claimed that the service clocked 238 Mbps download, 45 Mbps upload and 42 ms latency.
