Veteran singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu says she would have died if she had stayed in her marriage.
Onwenu opened up about the struggles of her marriage while in an interview with media personality, Kikilomo Atanda-Owo.
In the chat, she disclosed that she was depressed and had to leave because the environment was unhealthy for her children.
She said: “I went through my marriage, it was difficult because I really did not want my marriage to end but I could not take it anymore, it would have killed me.

“I always say this and that is the truth. It was not good for the children to live in that kind of environment where the mother is depressed. The mother is carrying the weight of the whole family.”
Onyeka Onwenu known for keeping a low profile on her private life for the first time opened up about her marital life in her 2020 memoir titled “My Father’s Daughter”.
“In this book, I am, perhaps for the very first time, setting the records straight with respect to my connubial relationship. Yes, I was married. I married a man I fell in love with in 1984. We have two children: Tijani and Ibrahim. (Ibrahim later changed the first letter of his name from I to A, and thus became Abraham.) My husband is Yoruba, and was a Muslim when we met.”. She wrote.
