Hollywood big shot writer, Steven Spielberg is working on a new horror series that can only be streamed when it’s dark. The new horror flick is only going be viewable on phone. The twist is that it can only be watched when its dark outside.
The new series will be about 10 to 12 episodes long. It will be streamed on a platform dedicated to short-form called Quick Bites. It is a creation of former HP CEO Meg Whitman and former Disney executive, Jeffery Katzenberg.
Spielberg has reportedly already written about six episodes of the series. He specifically asked that he wanted the show to be viewed at night only. So the engineering team at Quick Bites came up with a new way to deliver the episodes.
They will use the internal clock on the subscriber’s phone to determine when it’s sunset. A clock in the app will count down until the sun disappears. Only after these will the episode be available to watch. At dawn, the series will disappear until it is night time again.
About Quibi
According to Katzenberg, Spielberg is writing the story himself after having not written in a while. The streaming app announced the show as part of its lineup following its launch. It will also have eight other super premium production short films.
The goal, according to him, is that there will be 125 pieces of TV shows and short films every week. That will make it about 7,000 a year. This will have lighthouse productions TV shows that will also be rolling out every week.
The new streaming service shortened as Quibi is yet to launch. It will reportedly be available in about a year.
There is stiff competition as Disney, WarnerMedia and NBC Universal are also launching their own streaming services. However, the creators of Quibi are looking to have short YouTube-like length films. They also intend to involve the best writers and high-profile filmmakers.
Katzenberg said,
“What Quibi is doing, it’s not really short-form. We’re putting those sciences together. Chapters or act breaks that are 7 to 10 minutes long. They are specifically shot to be watched on the go. If you’re 25-35 years old, you get up and you’re on [a smartphone] for over five hours.”
Since the service isn’t expected to launch until 6th April 2020, it is safe to say that we have a long wait for the Steven Spielberg film.
You reckon you may be replacing Netflix with Quibi soon. The app is mobile friendly and has a $5 monthly subscription. The ad-free version is $8 monthly.
