Telegram Cops More Than 70 Million Users After Rival Facebook Outage

Messaging App Telegram has copped more than 70 Million Facebook users after its rival outage on October 4, 2021. This was announced by Telegram’s CEO Paul Durov on October 5, 2021.

This huge growth caused a lot of traffic at some point with “some users in the Americas may have experienced slower speed than usual as millions of users from these continents rushed to sign up for Telegram at the same time.” Paul said.

Hilariously, paul described the new users as “the daily growth rate of Telegram exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude, and we welcomed over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day.”

“I am proud of how our team handled the unprecedented growth because Telegram continued to work flawlessly for the vast majority of our users.”

Parent company Facebook said in an official statement that the cause of the downtime was due to configuration issues. It also reassured users that none of their data was comprised during the outage.

The company said, “this disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt.” Even CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote an apology on Monday evening “Sorry for the disruption today — I know how much you rely on our services to stay connected with the people you care about.”

So technically, the fault was from its configuration changes on their backbone routers. These routers helped with network traffic coordination between data centres causing the downtime in Facebook.

Telegram stable and reliable platform was ready to save the day during the six hours outage. Cheekily, Paul ends his remark with “For the new users I’d like to say this – welcome to Telegram, the largest independent messaging platform. We won’t fail you when others will.”
