The second part of highly-anticipated Stephen King’s 1986 horror classic is set to hit the theatres soon. “IT: Chapter 2” is a follow up of 2017’s first “IT” film. It will be the bloodiest in horror history. While we await its release on 6th September, the first trailer gives a lot of snippets of what to expect. Beware of the blood, creepiness and grim!
Unlike the novel, the younger children were in 1958 and reunited in 1985. However, in the film, “IT: Chapter 1” occurred in 1988, while the second part takes place in 2016. This is a more modern take on the film.
In the first chapter of IT, the film ends with a prediction of what to come. Beverly (played by Sophia Lillis) tells her friends she had a vision of the Loser’s Club reuniting as adults to fight Pennywise once more. Then they swore an oath that if he ever returned in Derry, they would reunite and destroy him once and for all.
“IT: Chapter 2” trailer breakdown
Fast-forward to 27 years later and the Loser’s club return to the town of Derry. This is because Pennywise always revisits the town every 27 years, and that’s when the film kicks off again. The second chapter’s trailer mostly features one freakishly haunting old woman.
The creepy trailer hints at the origin story of Pennywise, the evil clown. “IT: Chapter 2” trailer opens with the adult Beverly Marsh visiting her childhood home hoping to find her estranged father. She is welcomed by an innocent looking old woman, Mrs Kersh. Mrs Kersh invites her in for tea.
“You know what they say about Derry?” the woman tells her with a contorted smile. “No one who dies here ever really dies.”
In the trailer, Mrs Kersh complains about the sweltering heat. Then she mentions she has cookies in the oven. Beverly Marsh (Jessica Chastain) gets up to scan the pictures on the wall. Unfortunately, she soon realises something horrifyingly unexpected. The old woman is the shape-shifting Pennywise!
With the way he was destroyed in the first part, it’s obvious the evil clown is really mad.
Now, the Loser’s club (adults) have to find a way to put an end to IT once and for all. We catch glimpses of the other characters in the trailer:
- Bill Denbrough (James McAvoy) stares intensely at the sewer that Pennywise used to lure his little brother to his death nearly three decades prior.
- Richie Tozier (Bill Hader) sits at a bench beneath the looming Paul Bunyan statue as it floats across the sky with balloons.
Naturally, Pennywise is up to his old tricks of luring kids with red balloons.
The other Losers seen in the clip are Ben Hascomb (Jay Ryan), Eddie Kaspbrak (James Ransone) and Mike Hanlon (Isaiah Mustafa).
The first chapter was the most successful horror film of all time. How do you think the second chapter would do?
