Tesla will now be delivering its Model 3 built at its Fremont, California factory with a wireless charger and USB-C ports. This comes as the electric automaker reduced its prices last month so as to boost sales.

Drive Tesla Canada reports that the features are already available in Tesla’s Model Y.  According to the report, Tesla also began adding them to its Chinese-made Model 3 vehicles in May 2020.

The Model Y comes with a Qi wireless phone charger. According to Elektrek, the option had been available to Model 3 customers as an after-sales add on. Tesla began delivering the Model Y to its US customers in March 2020.

Here are the specific USB changes as confirmed to Drive Tesla Canada by a Tesla employee:

— Driver-side front port will now be USB-C (which will power the wireless charging pad)

— 2 rear ports will also now be USB-C

— Passenger-side front port will standard USB

Elektrek reports that the Model Y’s interior has a lot of similarities to Model 3 with the major difference being the bigger cargo space and the eventual third-row seats.

Tesla had reduced the prices of its Model 3, Model S, and Model X in North America in May 2020. It also did the same for its Model S and Model X cars sold in China. However, its Model 3 produced in China did not have their prices reduced.

The moves were an attempt to help boost sales in the midst of the global pandemic. Due to the lockdown rules, many automakers saw a huge decline in the demand for their products.
