“The Village HeadMaster” is returning to our TV screens.
Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) teams up with Wale Adenuga Productions to release the series.
“The Village HeadMaster” started off as a radio drama series in 1958, however, the TV version was Nigeria’s longest-running soap opera that aired on NTA. It ran from 1968 till 1988.
Set in the fictitious Yoruba village of Oja, the series dealt with social problems and the effect of government policies in Oja. It was the first major Tv drama with an ensemble cast from different ethnic groups.
In the series, the Nigerian Pidgin gets mixed with English with most scenes taking place in the Oloja of Oja’s palace, the headmaster’s school, and Amebo’s palm wine shack.
It starred Ted Mukoro as headmaster 1, Femi Robinson as headmaster 2, and Justus Esiri as headmaster 3. Dejumo Lewis played Oloja, Clara Olushola as headmaster’s wife, Albert Egbe as Lawyer, and Ibidun Allison as Amebo.

Others were Jab Adu, Funso Adeolu, Joe Layode, Charles Awurum, Albert Kosemasi among other peripheral characters that also featured.
Meanwhile emerging in the rerun are Jide Kosoko, Mide Martins, Chris Iheuwa, Monica Friday, Eric Obinna, Adekunle Salawu, Kate Adepegba, and Lara Akinsola. Also in the series is Deborah Anugwa, Ibudun Allison, Melville Obriango, Jide Alabi, Yemi Remi, and Mr Latin, and a host of other talented actors.
This new production of “The Village Headmaster” Tv drama series would start airing in April 2021; on NTA Network, AIT Network, and wapTV Network, across Nigeria and several parts of Africa.
