These Healthy Benefits Of Green Tea Will Have You Rethinking Your Morning Coffee

Although originating in China, Green tea is one beverage that’s been enjoyed in Asia and all over the world.

 

This tea made from Camellia Sinensis leaves has been around for centuries. Scientists upon further studies continue to unlock new benefits of the green tea. Some of them have been highlighted in this piece.

Green tea as a stimulant

It is a natural source of caffeine so it’s a good way to kickstart your body for a new day. The great news is green tea contains less caffeine than coffee. So you can continue sipping it through your day.

Improves Weight loss

It contains rare phytonutrients that may also help you lose weight and keep it off. A 2009 meta-analysis of studies in this area found that drinking catechin-rich green tea significantly reduced body weight.

Furthermore, people who drank green tea were more likely to maintain a healthy weight after significant weight loss. But, if you’ve already given up on coffee and fizzy drinks, you may need other means than green tea to lose weight.

Helps with Cancer prevention

According to the National Cancer Institute, the polyphenols in this tea have shown it decreases tumor growth in laboratory and animal studies. It may also protect against damage caused by ultraviolet UVB radiation.

 

In countries where green tea consumption is high, cancer rates tend to be lower, although it’s not certain if its green tea which prevents cancer in these population. But, it’s a strong factor to consider.

 

Researchers also believe that it is the high level of polyphenols in tea that helps kill cancerous cells and can stop them from growing.

Promotes a healthy heart

A 2006 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that green tea consumption is associated with reduced mortality due to all causes, including cardiovascular diseases.

The study followed 40,530 Japanese individuals who for seven years had been drinking three to four cups of green tea per day.

The results were 31% of people drinking green tea had a lower risk of dying of a cardiovascular disease.

Minimal processing involved

Unlike sodas and fizzy drinks, the processing of green tea is relatively unprocessed. First, the leaves collected and left to soften.

 

After which they’re wrung out to extract their juices.  Then, they’re dried out and ready to drink. This minimal amount of processing means that it retains many of the phytonutrients that are available in the actual tea plant.

Stabilizes your sugar levels

It contains flavonoids, including epigallocatechin gallate which helps to decrease the liver’s glucose production.

 

This will help your body regulates blood sugar more effectively, keeping your glucose levels within a healthy range. This tea also helps in the reduction of diabetes, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s.

Boost for the immune system

In a random controlled trial, 32% fewer participants taking its extract developed cold or flu symptoms compared to a placebo control group.

 

While the exact mechanisms behind this effect are unknown, it is deduced that the Vitamin C in it could be related to the immune system boost.
