Your hands may not be sandpaper hard, but they are probably not very soft either. When asked what happened, it’s easy to respond with ‘life happened’. There are callouses on your fingers and palms, dry or chapped skin. But you can make your tough hands begin to feel like that of a baby’s.
It doesn’t matter how radiant your skin is. When it comes to that moment to shake hands or touch someone, you may have to think twice. Surely it’s not that serious until someone suffers a cut from your touch – dramatic much?
Well, your hands may not get as rough but they can get soft. It is possible to get them back to feeling like a baby’s in no time. With these tips and consistency, you could become a hand model instantly.
How you can make your hands soft like a baby’s
1. Exfoliate your hands
To get rid of the rough dead skin, you should exfoliate it. Achieve this with the use of coconut oil mixed with sugar. After mixing, rub on your palm, spreading the mixture until it covers your skin. Do this for several minutes before you rinse off with water.
2. Moisturise often
Contrary to what you may believe, your skin needs more moisture and less water. Water leaves your hand dry whereas moisturisers help to keep it feeling soft and supple. Therefore, you should always have moisturiser handy. However, too much moisturising would prevent your hands from using their own moisture. So, you should moisturise in small doses.
3. Soak in egg yolk
Eggs are great for many things beyond eating, and one includes improving the way your hands feel. Separate an egg into egg yolk and whites. Put the egg yolk into a small bowl, and set the egg whites aside. Place the egg yolk in a bowl and mix with one teaspoon of honey, 1/2 teaspoon of almond powder, and a few drops of rosewater. Massage your hands with the mixture and allow to sit in for 10 minutes. Afterwards, rinse your hands with water and pat dry with a clean towel.
4. Overnight steaming with socks and vaseline
While sleeping, your body goes through a lot of changes you can benefit from. One way your hands can benefit from this is through overnight steam with vaseline and socks. Begin with a gentle wash with a mild soap or a hand wash, then rinse with water and leave dry. After this, massage the vaseline or lotion into your hands before you wear clean socks over it. Afterwards, go to bed, sleep like a baby and watch your hands look like those belonging to one the next morning.
5. Almond oil and butter mix
To get rid of cracked skin, mix two teaspoons of butter and one teaspoon of almond oil into a bowl. Rub the mixture into your hands until your skin absorbs it. Let it sit in for at least 20 minutes before rinsing with water. Pat dry with a clean towel.
You may also use sunscreen on your hands while avoiding direct hot water contact. Another tip is to protect them from house chores, but if you grew up in an African home then this might be a death sentence. However, you can do your chores while wearing protective gloves. Just ensure you follow our tips to keep it look soft always even after a laborious day.
