Three Netflix movies that were picked for the 92nd edition of the prestigious Oscar Awards spent heavily on computer animation, up to $204 million.

Movies streaming service, Netflix got 22 nods at the next Oscar Awards scheduled for 10th February 2020. The award ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

Among these, three were movies that spent heavily on computer animation. I Lost My Body cost the lowest as the budget size was $5.2 million. Jérémy Clapin produced the movie that was released first in France.

Netflix later bought the worldwide distribution rights to the film. This is except in France, Turkey, China and the Benelux region. It is about a severed hand making a heroic journey back to its body and the hand’s owner’s life.

Another animation movie from Netflix that made it to the Oscar Awards 2020 is Klaus. The Spanish animated Christmas comedy cost $40 million. Sergio Pablos makes his directorial debut on the animated movie and it received positive reviews.

The movie is about, Klaus and a postman’s son, Jesper. The unlikely duo forms a partnership and delivers toys to children in a small town. This Santa Claus origin insinuating movie cost $40 million to make. The Oscar board also nominated it in the Best Animated Feature Film category.

The Irishman is another Netflix movie that made the Oscar cut. However, this movie enters the award contest in nine different categories. Despite not being an animation movie like the other two we have mentioned, computer imagery was widely used in its production.

Casting aged Hollywood veterans like Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci, it had to employ a de-aging tech to show them in their younger days.

It is one of the most praised productions from the streaming website’s studio and it cost $159 million.

Although not all the money in the movie’s budget went into computer-generated imagery, a large chunk of it did.

It also had many nominations at the Golden Globes Awards but had flopped relatively, winning only two awards. Netflix is, however, likely going to do better at the upcoming Oscars with its computer animation movies.
