TikTok has emerged as the most downloaded app in Q1 2022, and it has now reached 3.5 billion all-time downloads.

While in terms of all-time downloads, it is still behind the Meta super-verse of social media apps, its astronomical rise has been nothing short of amazing. Also, the fact that it is so-so organic is even more pleasing.

Unlike many other popular ones like Facebook, smartphone users have to download TikTok when they get a new device; it does not come pre-packaged. Competitors must be having sleepless nights brainstorming how to catch up with the Chinese owned short video sharing platform.

Nothing seems to be able to topple TikTok and its host of TikTokers. Copying its features has not helped Instagram or Snapchat to climb above it. Neither has introducing Shorts helped YouTube that much.

Since TikTok reared its head, it had taken off in a positive direction without looking back. Its feat in 2022 has been repeated all through 2021 as well, at least in the US. The app has now permanently relegated Instagram to second place after the Meta-owned app topped the most downloads charts for years.

Additionally, it is interesting that Sensor Tower, which published the statistic that this article is based on, only counts one download per Apple or Google account. Thus, 175 million different users downloaded TikTok between January and March 2022. It topped the charts not only worldwide but in Europe and the US as well.
