Apple CEO, Tim Cook has said the company is donating “millions of masks for health professionals in the US and Europe,” to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Cook confirmed the donation, which US vice-president Mike Pence first announced, on Twitter. Pence had said at a white house press briefing:
“The president and I literally heard directly from Apple that they’re donating 2 million industrial masks to this effort around the country and working with our administration to distribute those.”

It, however, isn’t understood how Apple intends to secure such a large supply of the masks due to scarcity. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos had also said in a note to employees that the “masks remain in short supply globally.”

Other tech CEOs are also donating masks
Besides Cook. other tech CEOs are also helping out as much as they can by donating masks and other protective equipment.
Bezos had written in a memo:
“[Amazon] placed purchase orders for millions of face masks we want to give to our employees and contractors who cannot work from home, but very few of those orders have been filled.”
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the company is donating its emergency reserve of 720,000 masks. In a Twitter post, he also confirms plans to donate more.
Director, Peyton Reed also thanked Tesla CEO Elon Musk for donating masks, gowns and other protective equipment to a UCLA Health facility on Twitter.

The CDC describes the N95 respirator masks as personal protective equipment “most often used to control exposures to infections transmitted via the airborne route.” The CDC also adds that the mask is “highly dependent upon proper fit and use.”
