Apple CEO Tim Cook says that most people may not be able to define the metaverse, casting doubt on Meta’s big bet. Also, in the same vein, hinting that his company is not working on a parallel version of the virtual world.
Speaking to a Dutch media outlet Bright, Cook said: “I always think it’s important that people understand what something is and I’m really not sure the average person can tell you what the metaverse is.”
The obscurity of the metaverse to the ordinary person is no exaggeration. It does not help that the innovation is also getting connected to other terms like NFTs, giving it an additional air of mysteriousness.
However, Mark Zuckerberg, who is betting not just the future of his company on it but a large chunk of his personal wealth, has attempted to simplify the technology as much as possible.

Once a conservative person, Zuckerberg now uses his Facebook account to make most of the direct metaverse announcements and other Facebook-related news.
In one recent news, the Meta CEO clarified that the aim of the technology was not to get people trapped in some dystopian matrix. This idea is something that Tim Cook further hinted at once again.
“[VR is] something you can really immerse yourself in. And that can be used in a good way. But I don’t think you want to live your whole life that way. VR is for set periods, but not a way to communicate well,” Apple CRO had told Bright.
While Cook is skirting the metaverse topic and making it a Facebook-powered project, Zuckerberg has insisted that Apple is a competitor in the field. Although, he said that it was in a philosophical sense. “This is a competition of philosophies and ideas, where they believe that by doing everything themselves and tightly integrating that they build a better consumer experience,” he had told employees.
