Rapper Travis Scott has been sued over the death of eight people and injuries sustained at his Astroworld concert.
The concert which took place on Friday, November in Houston, Texas saw a crowd surge that caused a stampede leading to injuries and deaths. Among those confirmed dead is a 10-year-old child.
The Migos rapper gave his first video statement on Saturday evening via Instagram where he said he was devasted by the incident.
“I’m honestly just devastated,” Scott said as he repeatedly.
“We’re actually working right now to identify the families so we can help assist them through this tough time,” the rapper said.
Many have criticised the show organisers for continuing the concert even while CPR was being administered to injured and dying people.
However, Travis Scott said he was unaware of what was going on while he was performing.
He said, “Any time I could make out, you know, anything that’s going on, you know, I just stopped my show and, you know, helped them get the help they need.”
Some live stream videos from the event show Travis Scott looking in confusion as ambulances carted people away before going on to finish the concert.

Meanwhile, Travis Scott and Drake —who was performing with him at the time of the crowd surge— were sued for inciting “Mayhem” by a concert-goer.
A Texas law firm, Thomas J. Henry Law announced that it has filed “one of the first lawsuits in Travis Scott Astroworld Festival tragedy. The plaintiff is 23-year-old concertgoer Kristian Paredes, who was one of those “severely injured” at the concert.
The crowd of over 50,000 persons at Houston’s NRG Park had started pushing towards the front while Travis Scott was performing, causing chaos and mayhem.
“The crowd became chaotic and a stampede began,” the suit wrote. “Many begged security guards hired by Live Nation Entertainment for help, but were ignored.”
Drake is being sued for continuing to perform after inciting mayhem with his appearance on stage.
“As Drake came on stage alongside Travis Scott he helped incite the crowd even though he knew of Travis Scott’s prior conduct,” the complaint charges.
The suit claims the two artists continued to perform even as the “crowd became out of control” and the “crowd mayhem continued.”
The plaintiff is also suing concert organisers Live Nation and the venue.
