Turkey has allegedly refused Elon Musk offer to send Starlink devices to help maintain communications in areas affected by the deadly earthquake. Business Insider cites a Bloomberg report which is credited to an unknown source.
According to a news coverage by The Guardian, the earthquake had claimed more than 1,300 lives after it struck central Turkey and north-west Syria.
Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said the impact killed 912 people, injured 5,383 others, and destroyed 2,818 buildings. Meanwhile, in Syria, it claimed the lives of 326 people and injured 1,042.

A Twitter user named Mehmet Emin Adin, who is an assistant professor of Radiology at Yale, had tweeted at the SpaceX boss about helping out with some Starlink satellites.

In reply, Musk told him that the Turkish government has not approved the usage of the service in the country and once they do, the company would send some of their satellites.
The news source claimed that a senior Turkish official had appreciated the billionaire’s gesture but said that the country had enough satellite capacity to keep connections running. Although, there has been no official response.
This response is in direct contrast to how the Ukrainian government received Starlink satellites during the Russian invasion earlier in 2022 and even requested more.
