Twitch announced an indefinite ban on former President Donald Trump’s account on its platform. This comes just two weeks after the site disabled Trump’s account, preventing him from streaming but leaving the account page live, in the aftermath of the mob attack on the Capitol.

A Twitch spokesperson said that the site would reassess his account after yesterday’s handover.

“We have indefinitely suspended President Trump’s Twitch channel due to the ongoing risk of further incitement of violence,” a Twitch spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

“The President’s statements continue to be interpreted as calls to action, and we are taking this action to remove the potential for harm to our community and the general public. Twitch has clear rules that prohibit hateful conduct, harassment, or incitement of violence on our service, and we consider off-service events when making enforcement decisions. However, the events of the past weeks have highlighted a gap with respect to rhetoric that encourages violence, regardless of whether or not it was directly streamed on Twitch. We will be updating our policies as a result of our consideration of this situation,” the full statement read.

This means the former president cannot appeal the account, unlike he could a suspension or even create a new account; except Twitch lifts the ban. Twitch had initially issued a temporary ban on Trump’s account in June 2020. The offense at the time was for broadcasting “hateful conduct”. The site had also taken down its PogeChamp emote in the wake of the Capitol violence. This happened after the face of the emote, professional Street Fighter player Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, allegedly incited violence. He posted a tweet questioning if more “civil unrest” would happen after a woman was shot at the Capitol. Apart from Twitch, Twitter had banned Donald Trump’s account on its platform. It blames the former president for inciting violence after the Capitol attack.
