In July, Twitter had teased that it was changing the ‘Retweet with comments’ feature to ‘Quote Tweets’, and on the last day of July, it finally effected the change.
The social media company announced the change via a Tweet that we caught late on 31st July 2020. It had posted:
Three things—
1. “Retweets with comments” is changing to “Quote Tweets”
2. Quote Tweets will appear right next to Retweets
3. The mask goes over your nose pic.twitter.com/x00YTZSAFs

Twitter is not just changing the way it ‘phrases’ the feature, it is also adding the way people find it. In a statement, the company explained; “Tweets about a Tweet add more to the conversation, so we’ve made them even easier to find.
“Retweets with comments are now called Quote Tweets and they’ve joined the Tweet detail view. Tap into a Tweet, then tap “Quote Tweets” to see them all in one place.”
As it explains, instead of only seeing the comments under a Tweet, you can now see the ‘Tweets about a Tweet’. This will likely reduce the cyber-bullying act where people ‘ratio’ another person’s Tweet, to reduce engagement while trolling them.
Now, when you tap on the ‘Quote Tweets’ you see all the engagements and conversations about a Tweet. It also puts all types of conversations about the original Tweets in one place, that is; you get to see text, photos, videos and GIFs about the Tweet.
As expected, users seized the opportunity to demand that the platform get an edit button. But, that does not seem likely to be happening anytime soon. You can read this article on why Twitter may not be getting an edit button soon.
