Twitter users recently called out Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, other world leaders and the media. This was due to their reactions to how Christians suffered when churches in Sri Lanka were bombed on Easter Sunday.
A series of devastating suicide bombings rocked hotels and churches on Easter Sunday. It left nearly 300 people dead and more than 500 injured.
Reacting to the news, Barack Obama tweeted:
The attacks on tourists and Easter worshippers in Sri Lanka are an attack on humanity. On a day devoted to love, redemption, and renewal, we pray for the victims and stand with the people of Sri Lanka.
— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) April 21, 2019
Hillary Clinton tweeted:
On this holy weekend for many faiths, we must stand united against hatred and violence. I’m praying for everyone affected by today’s horrific attacks on Easter worshippers and travelers in Sri Lanka.
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) April 21, 2019
Theresa May also reacted to the news:
The acts of violence against churches and hotels in Sri Lanka are truly appalling, and my deepest sympathies go out to all of those affected at this tragic time.
We must stand together to make sure that no one should ever have to practise their faith in fear.
— Theresa May (@theresa_may) April 21, 2019
Obama, Clinton and May’s tweets had one thing in common, and Twitter users were quick to point it out. They had failed to mention the word, Christians. Instead of mentioning Christians, who were the actual victims of the attacks, Obama and Clinton used “Easter Worshippers”.
Twitter users also pointed out how, when a similar attack was carried out on Muslims in Christchurch in New Zealand, Obama and Hillary didn’t fail to mention Muslims in their condolence messages.
Take a look at some of the reactions below.
“Easter worshippers” aka Christians. https://t.co/ocXXyD49ZK

“Easter worshippers” – Clinton and Obama seem to be finding it awfully difficult to just come out and say the victims are “Christians”. 🤔 pic.twitter.com/5Tt7tyGsEu

Lots of slippery condolences for #SriLanka from politicians who don’t want to address the core problem. Those people were murdered because they were Christians. The problem is not ‘terror’, but Islam’s message of violence towards non-believers. No other religion has it.

I literally never heard the phrase “Easter worshippers” before today. We’re called Christians. pic.twitter.com/AMx5qwqXDU

Our leading broadcasters have seemed unable to utter the word “Christian” in regard either to Notre Dame or the Sri Lankan murders. Bizarre.

The people killed in Sri Lanka weren’t Easter worshippers they were Christians. You have no problem staying other faiths. The Christians who were killed senselessly are heroes. Please show some respect for them. Christians they were Christians. Followers of Christ pic.twitter.com/EMDGSlFVBy

Isn’t it amazing that the word Christ – ian (Christians) or (Christian) has such power people can’t even say it. It convicts.

One names the specific victim group targeted & the ideology that inspired attack. The other does not. #EasterWorshippers pic.twitter.com/OMiS84mwZe

Christians is the word you’re failing to mention, Prime Minister. Christians massacred as they prayed. https://t.co/r4d7MfJY2c

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton using “Easter Worshippers” instead of Christians is a deliberate evil.
Donald Trump winning US election was a divine intervention to delay the anti-Christ a little while. We celebrate Easter NOT worship it. We’re Christians NOT idol worshippers. pic.twitter.com/dmWb49Clqu

Hey @BarackObama,
We are Christians and not Easter worshippers, we celebrate Easter we don’t worship it. I know that you know this but you just chose to disrespect a religion because you don’t believe in it. The shame is on you sir. pic.twitter.com/808jVeSpzJ
