Natasha Romanoff, better known as Black Widow, has had a number of appearances in other superhero films. But now, she finally has her own stand-alone superhero film. Marvel released the first trailer of “Black Widow”. It features American actress and singer Scarlett Johansson.

Johansson first debuted as Romanoff in Marvel’s “Iron Man 2”. That was where she first did that strangle-a-bad-guy-with-her-legs move that almost blew our minds. We then saw her in “The Avengers (2012), “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015), “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), “Captain Marvel” (in a brief mid-credits appearance), and most recently in “Avengers: Endgame” (2019).

Following the events of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, Marvel is hitting the reset button on this franchise. These films saw an epic battle between the famous Avengers and the villain Thanos. Even though the superhero group saved the universe, it came as a great expense to them.

The superhero film, set after the events of “Captain America: Civil War”, finds Natasha forced to confront her past. Set like a spy thriller, the film will serve as an origin story for Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, a hero we’ve been watching for a decade.

“Black Widow” marks the beginning of a new era, called phase four, for Marvel. It is one in a long line of American superhero films and television series produced by Marvel Studios based on characters that appear in publications by Marvel Comics.

“Black Widow” will hit theatres on 1st May 2020.
